Tomorrow – 1 April 2021 – is a significant deadline for landlords and letting agents across the UK.

Legislation around electrical safety in the rental sector was introduced by the government last year to decree that from 1 July 2020 onwards electrical safety testing had to be booked, completed and a report obtained for every new tenancy agreement that is issued. But as we head out of March and into April, it’s important to note that the legislation also states that any landlords and letting agents with existing tenancies were obliged to commission an EICR before 1 April this year.
As Mark Smith owner of MS Electrical reveals, the build up to the 1 April deadline has been hectic for him and the team. ‘We’ve been busy for several months helping landlords and letting agents in and around Cambridge achieve compliance,’ comments Mark. ‘However, we believe that there may still be some properties with existing tenancies which have yet to have an EICR carried out, and we’d encourage anyone in this situation to make a booking to be safe rather than sorry. We’re here to help, and we’re only a phone call away.’
