Keeping electrical safety in check

Fixed wire testing in a nutshell

8th June 2016

When you consider that more than 7% of all workplace fatalities are caused by contact with electricity or electrical discharge, fixed wire testing should be central to any organisation’s health and safety policy.

The Electricity at Work Act 1989 dictates that all electrical systems and equipment used in any working environment must be in a safe condition. Moreover, the Health & Safety Executive recommends that, to comply with those regulations, an electrical inspection and testing programme must be undertaken at all places of work. And aside from the HSE, many other organisations, including insurance companies, decree that their clients must carry out periodic electrical testing.

As Mark Smith, owner of MS Electrical Services, who offer fixed wire testing in Cambridge, Ely and Newmarket, confirms, knowing the regulations is one thing, but finding a qualified electrical safety partner can be tricky. “At MS Electrical, we’re fully qualified and endorsed by the NICEIC, which gives our customers the peace of mind that all inspections are correctly carried out according to the prevailing guidelines. We’ve heard a few horror stories where so-called electrical safety contractors have missed faults and the customers and their employees and visitors have had to bear the consequences. We’re passionate about fixed wire testing and we’re fully qualified, so we’re proud to carry the endorsement that the NICEIC brings.”

At MS Electrical we carry out fixed wire testing at hundreds of premises each year, often outside office hours in order to minimise disruption. We also issue a comprehensive Electrical Installation Condition Report so our customers know exactly where they stand with their electrical safety and any remedial work that may be required.

If you have any concerns over your fixed wire testing or PAT testing responsibilities, please give us a call on 01223 850301 / 01353 665106 – we’re here to keep your electrical safety in check.
