During recent PAT testing appointments in Cambridge we’ve come across some alarming issues with a number of appliances. While they may seem fine at first glance, it doesn’t take much to uncover some potentially dangerous problems.
In one office, we found a fan that on the face of it looked perfectly usable, but on closer inspection it became obvious that the lead had been sitting on a light and had started to burn. We removed the fan from use with immediate effect.
In a rental property, meanwhile, the kettle in the kitchen was clearly in regular use, but had been damaged and presented an electrical safety hazard. Needless to say, it was also removed from the site straightaway.
With both of these items, it was really only a matter of time before someone was seriously injured or even killed as a result of an electrical shock or fire.
