Keeping electrical safety in check

Is your tumble dryer safe?

5th February 2016

Following Whirlpool’s acquisition of the Hotpoint and Indesit brands, Indesit has identified a potential concern with two types of tumble dryers manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015. In some cases, excess fluff can come into contact with the heating element and cause a fire. The affected brands are Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda.

As Mark Smith, owner of MS Electrical Services, explains, the humble tumble dryer is sometimes not as safe as it seems. “Statistics indicate that tumble dryers cause 12% of domestic fires in the UK, making them the second most likely appliance after washing machines to catch fire,” says Mark. “As a result, at MS Electrical we’re keen to make our customers aware of the potential risks involved and in particular to encourage them to check that their tumble dryer is not one of the brands under recall. We take electrical safety very seriously and want to ensure that no one loses their house – or worse still their life – simply due to a lack of information.”

If you’re concerned about your tumble dryer, please check the Hotpoint Safety Notices webpage for the latest advice. And if you’re worried about any aspect of electrical safety either at home or at work, please contact us for a free initial discussion.
