Whenever we’re commissioned to undertake PAT testing or fixed wire testing, one of the key issues for us is to ensure that we keep any disruption to an absolute minimum. As a result, we were pleased to plan and execute two demanding projects in late 2021 that were achieved quickly and efficiently during the time window available. In both cases, we attended site to undertake a survey and create a detailed project plan which we shared with the client. Such planning also enables us to ensure that we’re allowing sufficient time and labour to complete the project.

The first project was for St Mary’s School. St Mary’s is a private all-girls boarding school in Cambridge. To save disrupting the school’s day-to-day activities, we organised for the testing works to be completed over October half term and during the Christmas holidays. This allowed us to have access to all parts of the school without interrupting lessons and impacting on the pupils’ education.

The second project was for Standen Engineering Limited, an independent privately-owned engineering company in Ely. Standens manufacture Standen Potato Systems and Standen Powavator Rotary Tillers which are sold directly and through a UK and international dealer network. They are busy throughout the year, only shutting their manufacturing processes down during the Christmas period. We were pleased to advise them that, to avoid any disruption to their business and to keep their manufacturing lines, spray booths and so on running for as long as possible, we would be happy to undertake the testing over the Christmas holiday. This would then result in no downtime and no additional costs to their business.
We’re pleased to report that both jobs were completed on time over the Christmas break and were handed back to each client to allow them to start up again on 4 January.
For Mark Smith, owner of MS Electrical Services, offering such flexibility indicates how the client comes first. ‘For us, electrical safety testing is so important that we’re happy to agree to carry it out whenever best suits the client,’ says Mark. ‘As well as ensuring that we don’t get in the way and disrupt the client’s daily operations, it also actually benefits us in that we can move around freely and complete the testing more quickly than if we have to work around pupils, teachers and employees. Ultimately, however, it’s about delivering a fantastic service at a time that best works for the client.’
