Keeping electrical safety in check

Keeping electrical safety in check

Testing times

20th October 2015

There’s plenty to think about when you’re running a business, whether it’s keeping your customers happy, managing your cashflow or planning for future growth. One thing which can get overlooked, but which is vitally important, is PAT testing.

All good businesses are acutely aware of the importance of health & safety, but many don’t realise that PAT testing is a requirement under health & safety legislation and that neglecting it can compromise the safety of both employees and customers.

If you employ staff, work as a self-employed contractor or are a landlord, conforming to PAT testing regulations will help you to ensure that the portable appliances you use are safe and help you to avoid violations. PAT testing legislation was brought in to ensure that all companies conform to the Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974, Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989, Provision and Use of Work Equipment regulations of 1998 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work regulations of 1999.

The current law requires that all employers maintain portable appliances and ensure their safety. This is done through testing of the appliances to safeguard against damage and to make certain that these items perform properly. Appliances should always be maintained properly and remain in good working order.

As Mark Smith, owner of MS Electrical Services, points out, PAT testing should be at the forefront of everyone’s mind. “We carry out lots of PAT testing in Cambridge and we’re very happy to do so because it helps protect everyone from the effects of wear and tear of their appliances. We also work with our clients to ensure that they don’t miss their annual PAT testing deadline by sending them a reminder a few weeks in advance to let them know it’s due. We’re very proud of our PAT testing service as we know that we’re helping businesses across Cambridge to meet their obligations to their staff and customers.”

Testimonials

Histon FC is making a long term investment in its Bridge Road Stadium so that it can offer players, fans and visitors the safest and best possible experience. Part of this project includes putting work in hand to ensure that all of the electrical devices and circuits throughout the Stadium are up to date and fully compliant with industry standards. Histon FC recently engaged MS Electrical Services to carry out a thorough electrical inspection of the Stadium. This is not the first time that Histon FC has called upon MS Electrical Services in this way. In addition to providing us with an excellent service, they also recommended where we should be planning to make improvements in future. I would recommend MS Electrical Services to any company wanting the best PAT and fixed wire testing results at a fair price.
