At MS Electrical we spend our working lives keeping electrical safety in check, and in doing so often make some alarming discoveries. Below we recap a few of the more interesting cases where we've helped to prevent serious injury and even death by undertaking PAT testing and fixed wire testing for our clients.
These images show how the live and neutral were connected the wrong way round on the supply socket into a commercial trailer. The consequences of this were that the fuses would not trip and isolate correctly and nor would the RCD, thus creating the risk of electrocution in the event of a fault.

These images show a number of issues that came to light during a PAT test in Cambridge, including neglected plugs and sockets, with one plug even having had the earth disconnected and therefore serving no purpose, along with some worn wiring.

These images show an appliance that was lacking a cover over its live terminals and had a blown fuse covered with a length of aluminium foil to keep it conducting electricity rather than replacing the fuse itself. Thankfully we discovered this before the property was rented out.

And finally, as shown below, routine testing at a rental property unearthed an iron that was falling apart but still in use, as well as a shower switch that was showing severe signs of wear and tear.
