‘When I was a child, I electrocuted myself when my Pac-Man machine broke. It was my pride and joy, so I attempted to fix it. In true 80s style, I used an uninsulated screwdriver from a Christmas cracker and shoved it into the plug while it was still in a socket and switched on. Needless to say, it hurt quite a bit, and thus my fascination with all things electrical began.

‘I joined a company after leaving school and undertook a five-year apprenticeship. I worked on projects of all sizes and types. These varied from schools, university buildings and hospitals to domestic homeowners. The jobs included house re-wires, boiler house installations, emergency lighting installations and re-wires of university buildings, to name just a few. I completed my apprenticeship and then decided to take a new direction a couple of years later.
‘I joined a specialist nationwide electrical testing company and achieved additional qualifications which allowed me to undertake fixed wire testing and PAT testing, and I also passed some Health & Safety qualifications. From there I took further qualifications in order to do the role of Qualified Supervisor. This role made me responsible for checking and signing off the EICR reports for a substantial workforce based all over the UK. I also managed EICR projects across the UK for clients including the Corporation of London, Portcullis House, University sites, sewage treatment plants across London, the Excel Exhibition Centre as well as a range of housing associations and retail shops.
‘Several years later I then decided that I wanted to try and develop my own company locally in the Cambridge area. The main aim was to provide our clients with a trusted service whereby we would look after their electrical safety requirements as if we worked for them ourselves. Our NICEIC and SAFEcontractor accreditations also demonstrate to our clients that we’re working to the highest possible industry standards.
‘Communication is so key to how we work with our clients. This ranges from the initial first communication about a job and the booking process, to the reminder that their test is due again. This enables our clients to concentrate on other parts of their business. It gives me a great sense of pride to see my team working with our fabulous clients year on year and developing the long-term relationships that are so important to us and to our clients. We’re proud to be working with some of the leading brands and academic institutions in and around Cambridge – you can view our client roster on our home page.
‘Outside of working life, my main interest is the gym. I regularly lift weights and have also been involved in the world of Crossfit. My fitness journey is my escape and my refocus on everyday life. It’s something I’ll always be a part of, no matter how old I get or where I am in the world. Music and sport are also a big part of my life, and I regularly attend gigs and head to Twickenham to watch my beloved rugby.
‘However, the biggest and most important part of my life are my incredible wife and sons. They’re a constant source of encouragement, support and love, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.’
