As we head into March, there’s now less than one month until the deadline for landlords and letting agents with existing lease agreements to have completed electrical safety testing on their properties and to have the requisite report in place.

The legislation introduced by the government last year stipulated that from 1 July 2020 electrical safety testing had to be completed and a report obtained for all new tenancies. However, it also states that any landlords and letting agents with existing tenancies were required to commission an EICR before 1 April this year, and that is now less than four weeks away.
Mark Smith, owner of Cambridge-based MS Electrical Services, is keen to help landlords and letting agents in Cambridge to comply. ‘The government announcement about the deadline for landlords and letting agents needing an EICR before letting their property was very well publicised,’ comments Mark. ‘We’re now looking to help rental property clients across Cambridge to achieve compliance with the requirement to have an EICR in place for any existing tenancy by the deadline of 1 April 2021. We’d therefore encourage any landlord or letting agent in Cambridge with an existing tenancy but without an EICR to contact us as soon as possible to book an appointment.’
